Creativity in health and well-being

With over 25 years professional experience in health & social care, Karrie creates workshops for staff and service users of care settings, to explore hopes, concerns, life experiences and mental well-being.

Puppets and masks offer an opportunity for people to explore serious issues with humour and effective meaning.

Participants share ideas and experiences, create their own puppets, and develop stories into performance (for each other, or to a wider audience)

Examples:

Inside-Outside Creative Process’ is a series of workshops using puppets and ‘power-masks’. The programme is designed to enhance emotional well-being and increase self-awareness and esteem.

Previous participants include people with mental health needs and learning disabilities.  Issues of bullying and discrimination have been explored. Puppets have Universal appeal and offer a different perspective on difficult subjects.

Incredible that anything exists - this hotch potch world of marvels & trivia, and which is which?’ Kathleen Raine

Well-being & Dementia project 2009

Zenwing have been awarded a grant by Puppet Animation Scotland to create a Puppetry Toolkit for working with people with dementia.

We look forward to connecting with people, and using objects that are of interest to participants. One of our aims is to be with people within a creative animation process that is easily accessible.

Our first step is shadowing Hearts & Minds practitioners who already work with people with dementia in creative, humorous and carefully considered ways.  We are also visiting the Dementia Services Development Centre, University of Stirling.
